To make this sculpture we collected dead kanuka branches from a flooded area near Lake Wanaka. By bending them we could push the ends into soft glacial clay in the shallow lakebed. We repeated this until we had a dome that when reflected in the still lake became a complete sphere.
Evening light enhanced the photograph which was made with a long lens at a low angle.
This very popular sculpture photograph was reproduced on the cover of Orion, a USA ecological magazine.
