I have recently installed a commissioned sculpture at a client’s property that has taken my work in a new direction. The client was unsure about including sculpture in relation to their contemporary architectural home, until I proposed these two figures sketched in steel. My intention was to personalise the space by inhabiting it with a human relationship.
The principles of sustainability that underpin my art practice include the need to evolve human nature beyond the current story by which we run the world. I have tried to build a reflective quality into the stance of these guardian figures. By making them as three dimensional drawings I am implying that we can redraw ourselves as guardians.
Above is a maquette of the sculptures. The finished standing figure is 2m. high.
