Californian poppies grow wild in the Wanaka region especially in the dry riverbeds. Since they are regarded as an invasive species we had no qualms about picking their beautiful two tone petals for this sculpture. By dipping them in the water we were able to make them cling to a round rock, their warm and velvety yellow and orange colours contrasting with the cold blue grey of the stones.
