The pohutukawa, an indigenous tree in New Zealand, grows abundantly along the coasts and sheds its leaves on the sand where they change through a myriad of colours. Here we have collected them and organised them in a circle according to colour so that they subtly suggest a three dimensional sphere. The background is the black ironsand characteristic of the beaches of the West Coast near Auckland, New Zealand and because it is in the shade the colour of the leaves is accentuated. The photograph is taken from above from a tree.
